Michele Bachmann’s Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist

JUL 13 2011, 4:25 PM ET

Michele Bachmann is practically synonymous with political controversy, and if the 2008 presidential election is any guide, the conservative Lutheran church she belonged to for many years is likely to add another chapter due to the nature of its beliefs–such as its assertion, explained and footnoted on this website, that the Roman Catholic Pope is the Antichrist.

Bachmann was a longtime member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn., which belongs to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), a council of churches founded in 1850 that today comprises about 400,000 people. WELS is the most conservative of the major Lutheran church organizations, known for its strict adherence to the writings of Martin Luther, the German theologian who broke with the Catholic Church and launched the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. This includes endorsing Luther’s statements about the papacy. From the WELS “Doctrinal Statement on the Antichrist“:

So what would happen if the President of the most powerful nation in the world thinks the Roman Catholic pope is the antichrist? I guess we just have to wait.

I’ve posted this blog in May 2009 and I was talking about the gays in the Catholic hierarchy, in particular, Archbishop Rembert Weakland who came out and announced that he was gay. Weakland was the former head of the archdiocese of Milwaukee. I admit the article was a not so subtle jab at my admirer “Alias Losav” because firstly it was posted on a blog he once own which he abandoned. The blog was available to anybody for about two days until I grabbed it. The article was also about Catholics who are gay but have a hard time admitting they lost the battle and are still fighting it. Catholics like them are vehemently anti-gay but when they think no one else is looking they practice what they profess to be a sinful act. Thus the label closet-queen. That’s how I came up with the title of the blog drawing the similary of Archbishop Weakland and losav.

Anyway, in an article with the same title on his anonymous blog losav, or Er in real life stated attacking the Iglesia again. He’s apparently a fan of a certain Cenon Bibi of the blog Tumbukin Natin, claiming that Bibe “exellently dealt” with issues brought against the RCC. I beg to differ. So far, I haven’t gotten any rebuttal of my articles from Mr Bibe, the priest Abe Arganiosa or anyone else. I guess, Er is dreaming again. Among others, he claims the the INC couldn’t disprove that supposedly Christ is God. He even says there is no verse in the bible that says “Jesus INS’T God”. I guess he wanted it written as such and the following verses won’t suffice:

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God

for I am God and not man, the Holy One

That’s like saying one is not gay because he said he’s not, even if he practices gay acts. I digress.

He then went on accusing INC members of spamming Mr Bibe’s blog. My response to that is one, no one is even sure those spammers are INC. For all we know losav himself is spamming as he does in forums. Two, it is the blog owners responsibility to control what goes on with his blog. If he allows spam that’s his choice and he may use whatever the spam is to blame another group and accuse them of whatever to advance his plan. He then continued and went on and on about some nonsense that he himself didn’t understand. The thing with losav now Catholic Defender is that he doesn’t do any research. He just babbles on. For instance: he claims that the INC teaches that Christ is ONLY a man. Christ is man because Christ said so himself. But he is not ONLY, MERELY, JUST a man. Let’s make that clear.

One other funny thing is that Er thinks I am a minister of the INC and I know why they think so. None of them whether Mr Bibe, the priest Arganiosa or Er himself can refute my articles and my arguments. In fact, they’ve completely denied I had those articles that even a direct challenge couldn’t budge them from their hiding place.

By the way, Er is Ernesto Serna Vasol, AKA Catholic Defender, a Filipino national working in Doha, Qatar and a wanna-be Catholic Apologist.
