Juan Manuel Marquez, in his bid to get his retirement bonus by fighting the pound-4-pound king Manny Pacquiao was decapitated by an uppercut from the Pacman. It was a perfectly timed shot reminiscent of the humdinger of a punch that retired Ricky Hatton, the punch come a few seconds after the opening bell as Dinamita unwitting walked right into the freight train of a left by the pride of Sarangani. It was so quick that referee didn’t know who to count out whether the sulking head or the twitching body of Marquez. After the fight, the Pacman was seen leaving Marquez’s hospital room after a successful reattachment of the severed head. Ask what Marquez told him, Pacquiao said Dinamita was robbed again.

That’s all folks.

I have this sick feeling in my stomach that Manny Pacquiao’s eventual downfall will not be any boxer, or any political adversary. It would be the sneaky, dirty politician by the name of Chavit Singson. He’s been working on his angle since he first inserted himself into the life of Manny Pacquiao and not he’s making his move. Watch out everyone around Manny. Watch out Manny. Sabit Singson is no friend to anybody but himself. Just look at what he did to Erap Estrada. Watch out!

Apparently, Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez signed a contract to fight Manny Pacquiao for a third time Nov. 12 and it’s now up to Manny if he will sign too. His advises said that it all depends if the purse is good enough for Manny to take the fight. It will be a good fight, at least better than the last one with Mosley.

And funny man Marquez is not even saying he will beat Pacquiao. Now remember the last times they met was in the lower weights. While Marquez reigned (I’d say lanquish) in the lower weights, Manny moved up chasing the big money. He won that bet. After decimating the welterweights and above he has become the biggest start in boxing. I digress. Going back to Marquez beating Pacquiao, Juan Manuel must remember that he got floored by a less experienced and less conditioned Pacquiao. Since then, Manny grew and traded punches with bigger opponents. And not just bigger in size but big punchers too! Just recently Shane Mosley said he blacked-out when Manny knocked him down and that he did not remember the last three rounds that passed. Remember too that Mosley is a bonafide welterweight. And so good luck to you Juan Manuel Marquez. and goodnight.

7 titles in 7 divisions

It’s all over the place and you can’t miss it. “It’s what the people want”, so says the headlines. “The fight that will save boxing” says another. You know what I talking about Pacquiao v Mayweather for the supposedly best pound for pound boxer. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Mayweather enjoy that title when he was active? And didn’t he retire and went over shamefully to professional (read entertainment aka fake) wrestling? So I guess he’s on a mission to REGAIN that title. Therein lies my point. Going in Mayweather cannot help but admit that Pacquiao is the CURRENT king of the ring pound for pound and Mayweather is the CHALLENGER. So then, Manny has nothing to prove being he is the current king and he can, if he chose to, not fight this particular challenger if he chooses not to.

[ad#Google Adsense - 250x250 box] Which bring me to the title of the article. Manny doesn’t really need Mayweather. Sure it’ll make a lot of money and truth be told, that’s really what made Mayweather come out of retirement in the first place. Sure it’ll be exciting but not because of Mayweather but because of Manny. It’ll be action packed because Manny will make it action packed as he tried to do in the Clottey fight. Sure it’ll a joy to see Mayweather get shut up and shut down and sleeping soundly on the canvas. But not at any cost.

Manny’s record is intact no matter what. He is immortal in a way Floyd Mayweather can only dream of. & titles in 7 divisions.Pacquiao has won world titles at flyweight (112 lbs), super-bantam (122), feather (126), super-feather (130), lightweight (135), super-lightweight (140), and welterweight (147). Manny went through a gauntlet of Mexican legends and came through victorious. In all his fights he went 100% and didn’t ask for nor give any excuses. And he fought, not run, with a heart of a fighter. Sure, he’ll continue to fight because that’s what he loves. But for my money it doesn’t have to be Mayweather. I will actually be reluctant to give part of my hard earned money to Mayweather. Let it be Mosley, Valero or even Marquez just for old time’s sake. But I really don’t care for a Pacquiao v Mayweather fight. I’ll wait for it on free tv if it happens.

Do I sound like I hate Mayweather? Oh well…

In a stunning turn of events, Floyd Mayweather announced on his twitter account today that he no longer wants to fight Manny Pacquiao. The always talkative Mayweather was not his usual self as he delivered his announcement sans fanfare and trash talk. He didn’t provide any details but just said simply “I don’t want to fight you Mr Pacquiao sir”. Some observers think this latest fantastic turn was brought about by Pacquiao’s one-sided victory over a bonafide big welterweight Joshua Clottey.

Noted Jeff Powell of the Daily Mail

The perceived wisdom has been that Mayweather’s size and defensive skills would make him impregnable against any smaller fighter, no matter how gifted. That theory was thrown into question here as Pacquaio won almost every round against Joshua Clottey, an iron-man of a former champion who weighed two divisions heavier than himself by the time they entered the ring and who boxed behind a defensive wall of arms and gloves.

[ad#Google Adsense - 250x250 box]Clottey excused his negative tactics by saying: ‘He is so fast. Maybe too fast even for Mayweather. My only chance was to land the big counter punch.’

Then, in reference to three previous defeats on his long record, he admitted: ‘This is the only fight I fight I think I really lost.’

By a considerable distance, as it happens. One judge awarded Pacquaio a 12-round shut-out. The other two, like most of us at ringside, gave Clottey just the third round in a 119-109 thrashing.

I can’t say I blame Clottey as I’d probably do the same thing facing Pacquiao. Anyway, it was Pacquiao by TKO on the third round. That’s my own take of it. The official one? Pacquiao 11 rounds to 1.

So Manny Pacquiao is human after all. Or at least he was not able to stop Ghanaian Joshua Clottey in front of 50,994 spectators, who filed into the Dallas Cowboys Stadium to enjoy the spectacle of his defence of the WBO welterweight title.

This was a shutout victory for Pacquiao in front of the third highest number of fans ever to attend a fight in the United States. It was a shutout from first to last. Clottey, tough man than he is, simply did not throw enough punches. You cannot win a fight, if you do not fight.

Pacquiao won 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 on the judges’ cards. Pacquiao said: “It was not an easy fight, but I can’t believe it. I intended to start with a lot of jabs. I know he was waiting to counter punch me.”

Clottey said: “He has speed, but at the same time, I lost the fight. He is fast, he tried to open me, but I was taking my time, But I lost this fight…”

03/12/2010

By TIM DAHLBERG / Associated Press

The phenomenon that is Manny Pacquiao grew with a series of wins against some of the biggest names around. Now he has a fight to win against a guy who has nothing to lose.

It wasn’t supposed to be that way, but things rarely turn out as planned in boxing. Instead of fighting in one of the biggest bouts ever against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao will have to settle for fighting in one of the biggest stadiums ever.

The opponent is Joshua Clottey, and he’s what the wise guys in Las Vegas would call a live dog. A talented boxer who has never been stopped and briefly held a piece of the welterweight title, he brings some credentials of his own into Saturday night’s 147-pound fight at Cowboy Stadium.

But while he may be fighting on the star, there’s only one star in this show. Little guys aren’t supposed to fill big stadiums, yet some 45,000 fans are expected to be on hand to watch Pacquiao up close and personal — and on the huge overhead video screens that will show every drop of sweat and blood.

“The best fighter I’ve ever seen,” said promoter Bob Arum, who includes Muhammad Ali in that group. “No one has ever punched with equal power from both hands like Manny.”

Arum has a financial interest in saying that, of course, but there are few in boxing who would argue that Pacquiao is a talent unlike any the sport has seen in recent years. He’s coming off a stoppage of Miguel Cotto that cemented his credentials at 147 pounds, and he has created a buzz about boxing the sport desperately needed.

That was Diaz after his lost to Manny Pacquiao, the current best pound for pound fighter in the world! But that’s all over now. Others fared worse. Dela Hoya quits sitting on his stool. Hatton good a good night sleep and Cotto took a beating. Now Diaz is fighting his way back up the glory ladder. And he’s friends with Manny Pacquiao. Come to think of it, it looks like most of the Pacman’s former foes are his friends. Take Hatton and probably soon with Cotto.

Anyway, David Diaz will be an undercard fight in the Pacquio v Clottey ticket and he’s rooting for his friend Manny Pacquiao.
