In the twilight of his administration, George Bush once again displayed his deep intellect and diplomacy by branding Hamas rocket attacks as “act of terror” but failed to condemn the action which resulted in hundreds of dead and injured civilians, including women and children. Meanwhile, Israel ignored international calls for a cease fire. 3 Israeli soldiers died of friendly fire and 24 were wounded when a tank shell hit their position.
Injured civilians filled hospital corridors waiting to be treated. One volunteer Norwegian doctor described the grim task of choosing whom to treat because of limited resources.
It would be hard to understand how this action of Israel would stop the violence in the region. This author is afraid the young survivors of this attack would be easy prey for terrorist recruiters.
