Aquino admits guilt, apologizes to President Estrada
Former President Corazon Aquino apologizes and admitted to mistake she made when she joined and supported the illegal and unconstitutional ouster of President Estrada. Estrada overwhelmingly won the presidential race and became the first in Philippine Presidential elections to win by a landslide.
“I am one of those who plead guilty for 2001. Lahat tayo nagkakamali. Patawarin mo na ako.(All of us make mistakes. Please forgive me)” said the former president in a speech during the launching of an autobiography of former speaker Jose de Venecia.
Earlier, Estrada in his speech said he forgave de Venecia for participating in the 2001 power grab, known as People Power II. “I grant full and absolute pardon to Joe de Venecia and to all those who attended the Edsa 2″, Estrada told the audience, including de Venecia and Aquino.
Ramos, one of three key people who led the coup came to the occasion after Estrada had already left. With this apology, Aquino virtually vindicated Estrada. Estrada had always maintained the the coup was initiated my Ramos after the former started investigating him for scams in his own administration.
